Crawdaddy’s: A Taste of New Orleans
By MaDonna Awotwi
The wind blows briskly through the patio as I can hear the subtle sounds of a jazz pianist playing. I slowly stir the straw in my “voodoo juice.” Where am I, you ask? Perhaps you would think I was lounging along the bayou or having brunch in the French quarter. But I am right here in Harrisburg, Pa. at Crawdaddy’s Restaurant. This taste of New Orleans is celebrating 5 years in business this month, and with a menu that is certain to transport you, Crawdaddy’s is on to something!
Owners Bill and Diane Crawford started out in April 2012, just two blocks from where they are presently located. Born out of the Crawford’s love of fine cuisine and their desire to create a unique space in the city, Crawdaddy’s was born.
Specializing in New Orleans-style cuisine, live music, and entertainment, Crawdaddy’s has lasted much longer than some other minority-owned restaurants that opened around the same time.
Recently taking on a new business partner, Justin Coleman, Crawdaddy’s has begun to innovate and not only add new menu items, but live entertainment has now become a staple at the midtown-Harrisburg restaurant. When asking Coleman what his goal is for Crawdaddy’s, he said that he would hope that he can assist the Crawford’s in growing the business to the next level, that at some point they will be able to franchise the restaurant and there will be a taste of New Orleans all over the country!
