Everyday, more than 4,000 people arrive and depart Harrisburg International Airport (HIA) traveling to and from great cities like Chicago, London, Denver, Tokyo, Orlando and Paris. In addition to people, more than 425,000 pounds of air cargo are flown through the airport every weekday. Meanwhile, military and private aircraft use HIA daily helping us to fulfil our mission: to provide central PA residents and businesses convenient air access to the world.
During 2019, more than 1.4 million people will fly into or out of HIA—making it the busiest year in the airport’s 50-year history. American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, Allegiant and Frontier Airlines provide nonstop service to 16 U.S. destinations with connecting flights around the globe. Orlando, Chicago, Atlanta, Denver and the Tampa Bay region are the most popular U.S. destinations from HIA. Toronto, Cancun, San Juan, Montreal and Punta Cana are the most popular International destinations.
FedEx and UPS provide air cargo services so that individuals, businesses and manufactures can send and receive key documents, products and purchases to clients and business partners anywhere in the world.
Over the past few years, Sheetz, UPS, Enterprise Rent-A-Car and the Fairfield Inn and Suites have built new facilities on airport property generating more job opportunities for area residents. In fact, nearly 70 different businesses now employ almost 2,000 full and part-time employees on the HIA campus.
When the Middletown/HIA AMTRAK train station opens in a few years, HIA will truly become the ultimate car, bus, truck, air and rail transportation hub for central PA. In the next few years, the airport authority will offer numerous public bid opportunities for large and small projects designed to make the airport more modern and efficient.
